Congratulations Natalie Gauci.. 2007 Australian Idol!

We actually picked this even though most people told us that Matt was going to win. We figured that voters for Carl were mainly mature voters and these people would be more inclined to vote for Nat than Matt. We also saw that Matt was in the bottom 2 in the last verdict, so it all pointed to a Natalie win, although we are sure that Matt will have a sterling career ahead of him.

So that’s Australian Idol Series 5 over. We’ll be trying to keep up with any Idol news before next season.. so keep visiting the site.

The Final Showdown.. Nat Versus Matt!

There you have it folks… we predicted it, & so did quite a few other people… the final two for Idol 2007: Natalie Gauci vs Matt Corby. To be honest, we feel a little sorry for Carl.. he did really well & to be told that there was only 3% difference in votes between he & Matt must have been heart breaking for him. And isn’t it interesting that Natalie got the most votes? We think that’s great as everyone expected Matt to get the most. Well done Nat is what we say!

So the final is going to be great we thinks.. the right talent made it to the end. It will be a very close one.. whilst we think Matt will probably take it, we actually hope Nat will. Either way, both are going to be pretty successful in their careers & we think might be standout performers from the list of Idol finalists going back to the beginning of Oz Idol. They will be up there with Anthony Callea, Shannon Noll & maybe even Guy Sebastian.

Our Top 3!! Farewell Marty..

Did we pick it or what?? Ok, so it probably wasn’t too hard to pick. Obviously Marty was popular to make it this far but he definitely was the right choice to go out next. So there you have it folks, we’re down to our final 3 Idol Contestants.. most people we talk to are saying Matt is the shoe in to take the top spot, but thats what they said of Anthony Callea against Casey Donovan (not that it really impacted Anthony’s career in the long run!) .. you never know how Australians are going to vote at the final crunch, and Carl has enjoyed a pretty sweet ride up to this point - with most of the Australian Defense Force behind him, we wouldn’t write him off… next week will be a crucial decision wethinks. To be honest, we’re having a hard time choosing who we think will go next. We’d very much like Natalie to make it to the final 2 but there’s a good chance that Carl will instead. It would be a shock if Matt goes next but somehow we don’t think this will happen.

In any case, we strongly believe that we’ll be seeing a lot from these final 3 contestants after Idol. Even if they don’t win, all three: Nat, Matt & Carl will definitely have pretty successful careers in the Australian music industry.

But from here on in.. may the best Idol win!

Bye Bye Tarasai..

Contrary to many people’s thoughts at the beginning of the finals & pretty much throughout until this point, Tarasai Vushe has been voted out of Idol 2007. We think a lot of people, judging by what the polls were saying & the general attitude throughout, thought that Tarasai would at least be in the final 2 if not take the title this year. But we had a feeling that she wouldn’t make it. Whilst she definitely has the singing talent, hers is an attitude and a personality that doesn’t sit very well with the Australian public. We think she’d appeal more to the Americans than here in Australia.

Did the judges comments have anything to do with her being voted out? Its a controversial question, but we’d be naive not to think it had some impact. However, in the scheme of things, we believe that she sealed her own fate, especially with her behaviour after the show which widely publicised especially on the Dicko & Holden show on Nova. Australia usually cuts down “tall poppies”.. its our way of keeping the playing field level. This is probably why Marty is still there - he’s the good old down to earth Aussie bloke.

So there you have it boys & girls, our top 4 for 2007. If we had to put our money on top 2, we’d go with Matt & Nat although Carl is a big possibility as well. Marty will probably go next week..

Daniel Mifsud Leaves The Show

As we get down to the final few, its inevitable that talented contestants leave the show.. this week it was Daniel’s turn, and we thinks it was probably the right decision. It should’ve been either Daniel or Marty. We like Daniel but we believe that he’s been struggling a bit in the last few weeks, relying on his looks rather than his talent. His Judge’s Choice performance on Sunday wasn’t too bad, but his version of the Eskimo Joe song for Idol’s Choice was really sub quality. We’re sure we’re not going to see the last of Daniel in Australia. Good luck with your future Mr Mifsud..

Judge’s Choice.. Idol’s Choice..

Another performance show.. another lot of good, bad & ugly performances..

Judge’s choice.. well, one thing can be said about these judges, they do know how to pick songs that match someone’s style. There were particularly a few Idols that we thought “yeah, that’s a great song to pick” - actually, we pretty much thought it of all of them. Some standouts were for Carl, Matt & Marty but the other songs definitely suited the Idol’s styles as well. How they did with those songs is another matter.. actually, out of their two performances we found the judge’s choice to generally be the better lot..

The Tweenies Are Reeling In The Streets - It’s Good Bye Benji Mak!

Firstly, a big apology to the regular readers of this blog. The team has been dealing with some major technology issues at the back-end which prevented us posting our review of Sunday night’s show. The good news is that we’ve solved the problems & we promise to be back with our full posts this week.

Back to the “business at hand”. Bye bye Benji? Its a bit of a shock this one. Whilst we are a fan of Marty Simpson, we are definitely surprised that he’s survived & Benji’s gone. We predicted Ben to be in top 4. Oh well, the Australian public have spoken, much to the disdain of many a young girl (& probably boy!) we are sure.

Down to our final six.. the pressure is definitely starting to really build as the finalists can smell the open air of the Opera House steps… its definitely a talented bunch.. it will be interesting to see if they can step up & outperform (outwit, outplay, outlast!).

This is one verdict that we believe the Australian public got right, although Jake really should’ve gone last week or earlier. He’s a pretty good performer but he’s not up there with the other candidates & his “try-hardishness” (our new word!) was really getting annoying.
